Wireless Internet Access

Wireless Access Outside the Library

ICPL provides 6 internal and 2 external wireless 802.11b/g access points. The wireless coverage areas overlap to provide wireless access to nearly all areas of both floors of the Library. The external antennas provide free Internet access to the City Plaza pedestrain mall around the west and south sides of the Library.

Hardware Needs

You will need a laptop computer with a wireless network card. Wireless network cards can be purchased at any computer supply store.

Settings & Software

Your laptop will need to be configured to obtain an IP address automatically using DHCP. Because each person's laptop is going to be different you will be responsible for knowing how to configure your own equipment. See the Configuring Your Computer for Wireless page for some helpful tips.

Where to Connect

The following maps give guidelines for signal strength throughout the library. All areas of the library have wireless access, but some areas closer to the broadcast points may be slightly stronger. The meeting rooms also have access to the wireless network.

Note: Two additional internal wi-fi points are in staff areas not shown on the maps below.
