Crazy 8's Math Club : Super-Cube Shuffle

Crazy 8's Math Club is for grades K-2 and a totally new kind of math club where you’ll build stuff, toss beach balls, make amazing mazes and more! You’ll have a blast with mischief-making activities like Beach Ball Party, Funny Money and Glow-in-the-Dark City. This is week we will do the Super-Cube Shuffle: Math and art collide when you use specially colored cubes to create cool designs. After a round of design copy mania, you’ll be a super-cube pro!

Wonder Wednesdays : Minecraft Jr.

Come enjoy an hour of Minecraft for the game's youngest fans. Meet other fans of your favorite game. We will play on the computers in the computer lab. Living History with Harriet Tubman

Kathryn Harris, retired library services director at Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, began reenacting Harriet Tubman in the late 1990s. As Harriet she talks about her experiences as a ‘conductor’ for the Underground Railroad. Over a period of roughly ten years, Tubman made nearly a score of trips to the slave states to lead slaves to freedom in the north, risking her own life and freedom each time she went south. Harris has portrayed Tubman countless times, both to adult and children’s groups. This program is part of the 2107 Black History Month series.

Do you play Minecraft and want to meet other Minecraft players? Come play at the library. Build peacefully in creative mode or fight to stay alive in survival mode. Game rotation and group play are encouraged. Players should have a Minecraft account to play in multiplayer mode. Players without an account may use a library account. Learn Baby Massage

Join licensed massage therapist Kristin Bergman, LPN, LMT and Doula of consciousbirthiowa.com, today from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. in the Storytime Room to learn how to connect with your child through massage. Infant massage provides a special time of communication between parent and child. It also can improve a baby’s circulation, enhance neurological development, and help with congestion, gas, and colic. This class is intended for parents with infants ranging from birth to seven months. Parents should bring a towel or blanket, and food grade unscented baby massage oil or lotion. This program is free.

One Book Two Book: A Celebration of Children's Literature in the City of Literature

The sixth annual One Book Two Book festival is proud to welcome best-selling children’s book author Gene Luen Yang as the keynote speaker. Mr. Lang is a critically acclaimed children and young adult graphic novelist and cartoonist with several award winning books for children and young adults.. Other events include a children's book fair, live entertainment by storyteller, Darrin Crow and Absolute Science, arts and crafts, face painting, trains with Dan Daly, and more. Children's book characters will also be visiting--Pete the Cat, Olivia, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and Ladybug Girl! Wonder Wednesday's is a new after school series that incorporates learning STEAM in a fun way for kids in grades K-2. The first week of each month will be building with Lego's. Which is better the book or the movie? Decide for yourself at our book and movie club just for tweens (kids in 3rd-6th grade). During this session we will read some of the book book and watch the entire movie version of "Matilda" by Roald Dahl. We'll watch the movie based on the book with an intermission for discussion and snacks. Try to read the whole book beforehand, it's available in multiple copies and formats from the library.

The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is an annual long-distance sled dog race run in early March across a large part of Alaska. In this storytime we will watch footage from the race going on right now, read books about the Iditarod, and learn more about the dog heroes of Alaska. Mush, mush! A preschool-age oriented program for preschoolers where longer stories and books are shared with fewer activities. Preschool Storytime is recommended for children who are 3,4, or 5 years old.

On selected days, the Library will open one hour early for individuals with autism and their families to enjoy the library together in a neutral environment. The children's room will also have therapy dogs, sensory toys and activities. The Teen Room will be open for teens to play computer and video games. The library will also use Natural lighting throughout the library to accommodate those with light sensitivity.

Family Fort Night

Have you ever wanted to cozy up with a book in your own little fort in the library? Now's your chance! We will provide all of the fort-making materials, you just need to bring your fort-making skills! Join us St. Patrick's evening at 6:00pm to make your fort. We will have a fort contest to determine the most well-constructed fort. After the contest, stick around for a family movie night with popcorn and refreshments.
