Wonder Wednesdays : Erupting Watercolor Art For Grades K-2

Full STEAM ahead! For today's program we will use both science and art to create watercolor drawings. During this messy hour we will combine chemicals, watercolors and creativity for an explosive result! Wonder Wednesdays is a new after school series that incorporates learning STEAM in a fun way for kids in grades K-2. The second and third week of each month will be Full STEAM Ahead. We will be doing a variety of STEAM Activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.

Duct tape and washi tape come in tons colors and patterns, so they're perfect for giving your stuff new life. First, give pencils, notebooks, and cases colorful transformations with washi tape. Then try your hand at creating duct tape wallets, flowers and bracelets. Just for kids in grades 3rd-6th.

We will be doing a variety of STEAM Activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. Meet our new Library robots: Dot & Dash! Learn how to program and drive them around the library! Due to limited space, this is a drop-off program. We kindly ask that siblings and caregivers wait outside the programming room, to give the kids space to move about.

National Bookmobile Day event at Mercer Park

Celebrate bookmobiles with the Iowa City Public Library and Antelope Lending Library on National Bookmobile Day! Visit the bookmobiles as well as other vehicles that provide important mobile services in town, such as a fire truck, police car, UIHC Mobile Clinic, Table to Table van, an IC Transit bus, and more! The Dandelion Stompers will perform, and there will be free activities courtesy of Zen Den, massage therapist Jamie Nevins, and a mini zine craft courtesy of Katie Ross. Have your face painted, get your hands on the bookmobiles' summer schedules, and nab a special bookmobile-themed giveaway. Stop by Mercer Park and welcome ICPL's new bookmobile to town! (Rain location is the Mercer Park Community Room.)

Tween Minecraft Time

Do you play Minecraft and want to meet other Minecraft players? Come play at the library. Build peacefully in creative mode or fight to stay alive in survival mode. Game rotation and group play are encouraged. Players should have a Minecraft account to play in multiplayer mode. Players without an account may use a library account. This event is for children in grades 3rd-6th (ages 8-12) Please register below. If you need to change your registration, please contact the library.

Totally Tweens: Poetry Workshop

Join us to write your own poems and learn about various poetic forms from haiku, concrete poems, acrostic poems, limericks, etc. Read them aloud or write for your eyes only. All materials will be provided and refreshments will be served. A poetry slam will take place the last 15 minutes of the workshop; parents and guardians may attend. Just for kids in 3rd-6th grade.
