||Sensory Storytimes, First Saturdays, 1:30 p.m.
The first Saturday of each month August-December. Sensory Storytimes with Jackie Biger are designed for children with autism spectrum disorders, sensory integration issues, or other developmental disabilities, along with their friends or siblings. These storytimes include tactile books, songs, stories & activities that will provide the opportunity for hands-on participation. A caretaker must accompany each child with special needs. |
The Iowa City Public Library is dedicated to offering a variety of experiences with local and nationally-renowned authors to the public. Past authors have included Jan Brett, Jack Gantos and Linda Sue Park. Authors in 2010 include Sarah Prineas and John Coy.|
||Kid's Chess Tournament
Each fall the Library hosts a free chess tournament for Grades 3-6 (or younger if ranked with the United States Chess Federation). Cosponsored by the Hawkeye Chess Club.|

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, children in Grades 3-6 can paint a ceramic item with Fired Up. Registration required. |
