103. Membership in Professional Organizations Policy
103.1 | The Library recognizes that personal memberships in professional organizations provide important continuing education and networking opportunities for trustees and staff. The Library offers financial support through payment of dues, in full or in part, in order to encourage participation on the part of trustees and staff. Institutional membership is maintained in pertinent professional organizations such as OCLC and the Innovative Users Group. |
103.2 | The Library will pay annual dues of the Iowa Library Association and Trustee subdivision for all trustees. |
103.3 | The Library will pay an annual basic membership in the American Library Association (ALA) for any trustee who requests it. Members will be asked each year in January. Trustees wishing to join other divisions of ALA will pay their own dues. |
103.4 | The Library will pay one-half of the basic ALA or ILA dues of any permanent staff member requesting it. |
103.5 | The Library will pay the full cost of selected ALA division memberships to a permanent staff librarian who agrees to give the journal(s) of that division to the library. The Library will pay for only one membership per division per year per employee. Alternatively, the Library may become an institutional member of ALA divisions. |
103.6 | The Library will pay the full cost for the director's membership in one local service club. |
