Ethernet Plugin Internet Access

There are ethernet ports available throughout the Library at desks and study areas. Patrons can connect to these ports with a portable laptop or computer to use the Library's Internet access.

What hardware do I need?

You will need a laptop computer with an Ethernet network card. Ethernet cards can be purchased at any computer supply store. You will need a length of Ethernet cable to run from your laptop to the Internet jack. You may borrow an Ethernet cable from the Information Page Station on the Second Floor.

What settings do I need?

Your laptop will need to be configured to obtain an IP address automatically using DHCP. Because each person's laptop is going to be different, you will be responsible for knowing how to configure your own equipment. Some helpful tips are included at the end of this page.

Where can I connect my laptop?

The Internet connections are all on the second floor of the library. They are in the study rooms, in the carrels along the west wall and there are several connections on the south wall. The following map shows all of the available connections. Click on the map for a larger, printable version.
