Outreach to the Community

Iowa City Public Library Outreach program provides satellite libraries to over 20 community sites in Iowa City, Hills, University Heights, and rural Johnson County. These community, youth and senior centers receive donations of Library materials and discards. Some sites receive loaned materials from ICPL. Donated and loaned books provided by the Outreach program are shared by all residents and are located in community area at the site.

ICPL Outreach staff visit sites at least once a year to meet with site staff, update the organization's needs assessment, and to organize collections. New books are sent periodically throughout the year. Outreach collections are maintained by site staff and volunteers and have uniform classification systems that promote easier browsing and re-shelving by users of the collections.
