2022 VITA Tax Help

Update from 3/21/2022:  VITA has reached capacity for 2022 and is not taking any new requests.

Hooray for VITA's free tax preparation!

Trained volunteers from the University of Iowa help low- and moderate-income taxpayers in the Johnson County area prepare and file their taxes electronically. There is no cost for preparing your returns or getting your refund.

VITA is currently accepting requests for tax preparation using one of three methods, due to COVID precautions:

  • No-contact.  100% virtual service using fillable online forms.
  • Low contact.  VITA mails you paper forms, you complete them, and then drop them off with a 5-10 minute intake process.  Iowa City Public Library is one of the drop-off sites, and schedule details come in the mailed packet.
  • Face-to-face.  Join a waiting list for an in-person appointment, starting in March at the earliest.  Locations and times have not been announced yet.

How can you get started?  Fill out VITA's online form or visit biz.uiowa.edu/vita for more details.
