Ancestry Library Edition Remote Access Ends

There is important news for ICPL at-home genealogists and local history researchers, Ancestry Library Edition will no longer be available for remote access after December 30, 2021. The company had been offering this option since the early stages of the COVID-19 crisis but has decided to return to in-house Library access only. Users will have free access to the site on our computers or on a personal device on our Wi-Fi network. This change does not pertain to access to the Freedmen's Bureau and Freedman's Bank records used to help descendants of previously enslaved people in the U.S. learn more about their families. While here at ICPL you may also make use of our access to the expanded affiliate library status of the FamilySearch genealogy database.

For those that want to continue genealogy research from home, we still offer remote access to a variety of online resources with your library card and PIN/Password including:

HeritageHub - Formerly known as America’s Obituaries & Death Notices. Explore genealogical records from 1704 – today, including hard-to-find obituary content from the mid 1900’s, coverage from all 50 states, and original obituary images from historical newspapers.

HeritageQuest - Hosted and maintained by Ancestry, it includes many of the same resources found within that product including census records, cemetery collections, Social Security Death Index, immigration records, and more.

NewspaperArchive - Historical newspaper database online, containing tens of millions of newspaper pages from 1607 to present.

Our full complement of resources is available at the Genealogy and Local History category on the Online Resources section of the ICPL website.
