Internet Basics

Two dates to choose from: Monday 2/13, 6-7pm, or Friday 2/24, 10:30-11:30am

Digital Media Lab, in person

This is part 2 of the new "Computer Basics" and "Internet Basics" series, which will be repeated regularly.

Gain confidence and experience using the internet! This class is for anyone who's uncomfortable going online or navigating websites.  On a Windows 10 computer, we'll cover web browsers, the address bar, effective searching, navigation buttons, filling in online forms, downloads, and printing a webpage.  With lots of hands-on practice and one-on-one help, you (or someone you know who could use this class?) will leave feeling better about using the internet!

Intro to the Cricut Cutting Machine

Monday 2/20, 5:30-6:30

Digital Media Lab, in person

Anyone interested in using the Cricut to create paper cut-outs, vinyl stickers, iron-on designs, or other creations is invited to this introductory session.  It's not required to use the Cricut, but it could help you start planning your own projects. I'll walk you through:

  • What you can make with a Cricut
  • What the library can provide, and what materials you'll need to supply for yourself
  • A demonstration of the Cricut Design Space app
  • See the thousands of pre-made images, projects, and fonts available to you in Cricut Access
  • See it in action
  • How you can make a reservation for a time slot!

Photoshop for Beginners

Monday 2/20, 7-8pm

Digital Media Lab, in person

Join library staff for an introductory hour on the industry standard in photo editing and digital art! You'll get comfortable with Photoshop's interface, learn how to open or create a new document, and begin making basic edits. Before you can start making the extreme changes that Photoshop is known for, let's cover the basics of improving a photo's appearance.

Intro to Coding with Python, Part 1

Monday 2/27, 7-8pm

Digital Media Lab, in person
Have you ever wanted to learn to code, but had no idea where to start? Curious about how the apps on your phone and programs on your computer are made? This introduction to coding will teach you the basic building blocks all programs are constructed from, and you’ll be learning Python, one of the most widespread and beginner-friendly programming languages used today.  We’ll cover variables, if-else statements, for loops and while loops, printing messages, and arrays in this beginner class. You can use one of the library's computers, or bring your own laptop with Python 2.7 installed.
