Press ReleaseICPL announces April classes for adults

During the month of April, the Iowa City Public Library will host classes that highlight the addition of Wacom Intuos graphics tablets to its selection of equipment. These tablets will allow users to hand-draw images, animations, graphics, and more on the computer. Library patrons can look forward to these arts-based classes to learn more about this exciting technology.

Did you know you can turn your family photos into a coloring book for all ages? On Monday, April 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, April 26, from 1 to 3 p.m., we will use your family photos to digitally “draw” the pages of your own coloring book. No previous experience is necessary, though participants may need higher level computer skills to feel successful. Please bring several family photos – digital or print – to the class.

Are you a comic artist in the making or do you just love to doodle? Take your artwork from the sketchbook to the screen! Join us on Monday, April 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. to learn the basics of using a Wacom Intuos tablet to digitally sketch, draw, and paint. Higher level computer skills and comfort may be necessary to feel successful in this class, though all are welcome.

Want to use the Digital Media lab at any time while the library is open? Ask for an orientation at the Page Station so you can use the room’s technology to digitize your current photos, slides or VHS collections, edit digital images or video, or create new digital work such as graphics, animations and more using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Wacom tablets. To use the lab, individuals should have a valid ICPL Library Card.

Classes are free and space is limited, so patrons should register early. To register for classes at the Library, visit https://www.icpl.org/events/digital-media-lab to register online. You can also register by calling the Library at (319) 356-5200. All classes will be held in the Digital Media Lab on the second floor.
