Press ReleaseICPL announces February classes for adults

As the Iowa winter stretches on, we all begin to daydream of traveling to faraway places. To combat cabin fever, the Iowa City Public Library will host a series of travel-based classes and programs in our Digital Media Lab that will introduce patrons to online tools and exciting technology.

Looking to get out of town without ever going outside? Join us for a Virtual Reality expedition with Google Cardboard VR viewers on Friday, February 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. and Monday, February 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. Using our own smartphones, we will use virtual reality viewers to remotely visit far-flung places from the comfort of the library.

Wishing for warmer temperatures? Discover how to use online tools and tricks to start planning your Spring Break getaway or your summer vacation. We’ll discuss how to be your own travel agent on Monday, February 4, from 6 to 7 p.m. and Friday, February 22, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Want to use the Digital Media lab at any time while the Library is open? Get an orientation so you can use the room’s technology to digitize your current photos, slides or VHS collections, clean up or edit digital images or video, try out the Google Cardboard virtual reality viewers or create new digital work such as graphics, animations and more using the Adobe Suite and Wacom tablets. To use the lab, individuals should have a valid Library Card.

Classes are free and space is limited, so patrons should register early. To register for classes at the Library, visit http://calendar.icpl.org/categories/classes-tech-help to register online. You can also register by calling the Library at 319-356-5200. All classes will be held in the Digital Media Lab on the second floor.
