Press ReleaseICPL announces October classes for adults

Fall into a new activity this autumn with help from the Iowa City Public Library!

Have you always wanted to carve your own portrait into a pumpkin? Do you wish there was a stencil of your favorite celebrity or pop culture icon? Learn how to use Adobe Photoshop to create your own printable Halloween stencil during our Create Your Own Pumpkin Stencil class. We will help you use photographs or online images to make your pumpkin the envy of the block. This class will be held twice. Join us from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, or 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21. Each class is limited to nine participants.

We know November is still a ways off, but it’s never too soon to prepare for National Novel Writing Month! Your prep work begins with Make Your NaNoWriMo Book Cover Image from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28. Nanowrimo.org provides space for a small book cover image (a 230 x 300 pixel JPG) on your account screen. Learn how to make something in this class that will motivate you to reach the 50,000 word finish line! Class size is limited to 10 participants. Taking part in NaNoWriMo is not required.

Want to use the Digital Media Lab at any time while the library is open? Ask for an orientation at the Page Station so you can use the room’s technology to digitize your current photos, slides or VHS collections, edit digital images or video, or create new digital work. To use the lab, individuals should have a valid library card.

All ICPL classes are free. Space is limited, so patrons should register early. To register for classes at the Library, visit https://www.icpl.org/events/digital-media-lab to register online. You can also register by calling the Library at 319-356-5200.

All classes are held in the Digital Media Lab on the Library’s second floor.
