Press ReleaseICPL to Host Belly Babies for Expectant Parents


Parents expecting the pitter-patter of little feet are invited to the Iowa City Public Library’s Belly Babies, an early-learning literacy program designed to help families start a reading ritual before the baby arrives.

Beginning Sunday, November 4, and continuing throughout the month, Belly Babies will meet from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. every Sunday in the Storytime Room. Parents will tour the Children’s Room, learn about the five early literacy practices, take home songs and rhymes to do with baby at home, and register for ICPL’s Belly Baby Reads program. In the weeks following, community guests will share helpful information about prenatal yoga, lactation, doulas and baby wearing.

Sunday, November 4: Read to your Belly

Start a reading ritual before the baby arrives.

Sunday, November 11: Prenatal Yoga

Karen Gordon from Dancing Leaves Yoga will teach a 45-minute prenatal yoga class. Please wear comfortable clothing.

Sunday, November 18: Breastfeeding and Support

Kimberly Hendricks and Beloved Bonds & Bodyworks will share helpful information about breastfeeding.

Sunday, November 25: Doulas and Babywearing

Join Kristi Johnson from Iowa Doula Agency and AP Babywearing and Nikki Hines from AP Babywearing to learn about wearing your baby.
