In the event of a life threatening emergency like a heart attack or choking, every minute before help arrives is important. What do you do after calling 911?
In recognition of National CPR Day on June 6, the Iowa City Public Library and the Johnson County Ambulance Service will host two potentially life-saving workshops that day in Meeting Room A. Both workshops will be led by paramedics from Johnson County Ambulance.
STOP the Bleed: 9 to 9:45 a.m.; 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.
The only thing more tragic than a death from bleeding is a preventable death from bleeding. Learn what you can do to improve the chances of survival in this 45-minute hands-on course, with instructors giving you the skills you need to make a difference until emergency services arrive. Choose from one of two sessions. Each session is open to 30 people and registration is required.
Basic CPR and AED: 9:45 to 10:30 a.m.; 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.; 11:15 to 12 p.m.; or 12 to 12:45 p.m.
This 45-minute workshop, consisting of a video presentation followed by hands-on practice, can give you the basic lifesaving skills you need to make a difference in those first few minutes until emergency services arrive. Four sessions will be held, with each one limited to 30 people. Registration is required.
