Ivy + Bean bound to be bad

Annie Barrows

jFICTION Barrows, Annie
Kids

Best friends Ivy and Bean learn that being very good, or very bad, can be a real challenge when they set out to become like a man Ivy heard about who was so pure of heart that birds and animals followed him.

This series is my absolute favorite for reading to my kids. We went through the whole series twice. at least.

The Amulet of Samarkand

Jonathan Stroud

YOUNG ADULT FICTION Stroud, Jonathan
Fantasy, Young Adult

Nathaniel, a magician's apprentice, summons up the djinni Bartimaeus and instructs him to steal the Amulet of Samarkand from the powerful magician Simon Lovelace.

This trilogy is really good. More for older kids than the others in this list, but really good. I liked them enough to read the last one on my own.

Abby Hanlon

jFICTION Hanlon Abby
Kids

Dory, the youngest in her family, is a girl with a very active imagination, and she spends the summer playing with her imaginary friend, pretending to be a dog, battling monsters, and generally driving her family nuts.
