Home Edit

by Kara

Recently we moved and are in the process of remodeling a 1960's cottage into our new home. This is a list of books I've enjoyed during our moving and remodeling journey.

The home edit : a guide to organizing and realizing your house goals

Clea Shearer

Home

A masterclass and look book in one, The Home Edit is filled with bright photographs and detailed tips, from placing plastic dishware in a drawer where little hands can reach to categorizing pantry items by color (there's nothing like a little ROYGBIV to soothe the soul). Above all, it's like having your best friends at your side to help you turn the chaos into calm.

This book is full of great pictures and ideas that provide inspiration for getting your home organized and keeping it that way. I especially liked the ideas share through photographs.

Making space, clutter free : the last book on decluttering you'll ever need

Tracy McCubbin

648.5 /McCubbin
Home

Many have repeatedly tried to break their clutter's mysterious hold, only to fail. McCubbin explains what she calls the "7 Emotional Clutter Blocks," unconscious obstacles that stand between you and financial freedom, healthy relationships, and positive outlooks. She then offers a realistic approach to managing your belongings, and helps you create an individual strategy that helps you attain your life goals. -- adapted from back cover

At first I thought this book was too many photos and not enough pictures. Then I dove into it a bit more and came to appreciate the lists and checklists. Chapter 10 - Downsizing: the purge of a lifetime - is something I wish I would have seen before our move started.

"Smart Homes in easy steps takes the mystery out of all of the elements that are required to set up a smart home: it defines a smart home and shows what is needed to make a home smart: digital voice assistants, devices and apps."--

I'm hoping to make my home smart ... but not so smart that I get frustrated with the technology. This books seems like it can help.

Known for her insanely flavorful vegetable recipes and stunning photography, Jeanine Donofrio celebrates plants at the center of the plate with more than 100 new vegetarian recipes in Love & Lemons Every Day. In this book, Jeanine shows you how to make any meal, from breakfast to dessert, where produce is the star. Butternut squash becomes the best creamy queso you've ever eaten, broccoli transforms into a zesty green "rice" burrito filling, and sweet potato blends into a smooth chocolate frosting. These exciting and approachable recipes will become instant additions to your family's regular meal rotation. This book is a resource, filled with smart tips for happier, healthier eating. You'll find inspiration from Jeanine's signature colorful infographics - such as a giant matrix of five-ingredient salad dressings, a guide to quick weeknight pastas, and a grid to show you how to roast any vegetable. There are also plenty of practical charts, such as a template to make versatile vegetable broth, seasonal produce guides, and clever ideas to use commonly tossed vegetable parts -- you'll never toss those cauliflower cores, corn cobs, or broccoli stalks again!
