05/19/2018 3:00pm 05/19/2018 8:00pm Genealogy Lock-In Have you caught the genealogy bug? Join us for our first annual Genealogy Lock-In in the Digital Media Lab on the 2nd floor. During the afternoon, guest speakers Linda Greethurst and Kevin Spire from the State Genealogical Society will give presentations about correcting your family tree and using Google for genealogy research. After the library closes, stay to use the library’s print and online resources to either begin your tree or find a new piece of information. Library staff will be on hand to help where we can. Schedule: 3:00-4:00pm Iowa Genealogical Society instructor Linda Greethurst will present "My Tree is Sick... What Can I DO?" She'll explain how you can save lots of time and frustration by analyzing your sources and facts so you can avoid a painful and major pruning of your family tree later. Greethurt herself discoved that a long researched branch of her own family tree was not only sick but based on fiction at best. 4:00-5:00pm Iowa Genealogical Society President Kevin Spire will discuss using Google in genealogical research. 5-5:45pm Dinner Break 5:45-8:00pm ICPL After Hours: If you want to stay for the after-hours part of our day, please join ICPL staff in the Digital Media Lab on the 2nd floor by 5:45pm as the Library will be closing at 6:00pm. You'll need to be in the Lab before the library closes. (You can leave at any time). You'll have access to the library’s print and online resources to either begin your tree or find a new piece of information, and ICPL staff will be here to help where we can.
