Each week we will learn by doing with a craft, game or activity that explores a different part of the world. Also known as las fiestas agostinas , the August celebrations, las fiestas patronales de San Salvador is a weeklong celebration that honors the Divino Salvador del Mundo , the patron saint of El Salvador. The celebration is held across the first week of August in El Salvador’s capital city, San Salvador. In celebration of this Central American holiday, we will create Ojos de Dios, Spanish for “Eyes of God”, made from yarn woven around a cross figure. The spiritual eye of the Ojos de Dios is thought by some believers to have the power to see and understand things unknown to the physical eye.
