09/20/2019 9:00am 09/20/2019 5:00pm Imagining Latinidades in Global and National Perspective (Sawyer Seminar Opening Conference) In this opening conference for the Mellon Foundation-funded Sawyer Seminar, six invited scholars of Latina/o/x studies help frame the larger scope of a yearlong conversation about “Imagining Latinidades.” Speakers include the following: Arlene Da´vila is Professor of Anthropology and American Studies at New York University. Valerie Martinez-Ebers is Director of Latina/o and Mexican-American Studies and Professor of Political Science at the University of North Texas. Claudia Milian is Associate Professor of Romance Studies at Duke University. Natalia Molina is Professor of American Studies & Ethnicity at the University of Southern California. Gina Pe´rez is Professor of Comparative American Studies at Oberlin College. Anna Sampaio is Associate Professor and Chair of Ethnic Studies at Santa Clara University. This multi-day event will also coincide with the start of Latina/o Heritage Month (September 15- October 15). Events on Friday 9/20 and Saturday 9/21 will be at the Iowa City Public Library.
