11/08/2019 4:00pm 11/08/2019 5:00pm Totally Tweens: Publish Your Writing in the Literary Kiosk! What is the Literary Kiosk? The Literary Kiosk is an amazing machine that spits out flash fiction, poetry, and short essays at the push of a button. It lives in the public library and anyone can access it. It’s like an arcade game for reading (SPOILER: there are no losers)! How can you get YOUR writing in this incredible device? Come to the KIDS (grades 3-6) Literary Kiosk writing workshop! Hosted by two full-time writing faculty at the University of Iowa, the workshop will help you turn your literary ambitions into 8,000-character submissions. Join Colin Kostelecky and Brittany Borghi on 11/8 from 4-5pm for generative writing exercises and on-the-spot workshopping. Bring your favorite writing medium—pens, pencils, papers, or laptops—and be ready to write. You can also bring a finished 8,000-character submission! Once your piece is ready, you can submit it for publication in the Literary Kiosk—and your friends & family can press the button and hope it pops out! Help us showcase the local kid writing talent in our city. Join us! For more information, contact Brittany and Colin at brittany-borghi@uiowa.edu and colin-kostelecky@uiowa.edu. This event is cosponsored by The Iowa City Public Library, the University of Iowa Libraries, the UI Dept of Rhetoric and the UNESCO City of Literature. This event is for kids in grades 3-6 only.
