11/11/2020 6:00pm 11/11/2020 7:00pm Read Woke Book Discussion - How To Be An Antiracist Join us for an online Read Woke book discussion in partnership with the Cedar Rapids Public Library. Ibram X. Kendi is an American author, historian and scholar of race and discriminatory policy in the United States. In November we'll be discussing his book, How to be an Antiracist, where he explains that “the only way to undo racism is to consistently identify and describe it—and then dismantle it.” Kendi believes that it is not enough to simply be not racist, but we need to be antiracist; "one who is supporting an antiracist policy through their actions or expressing an antiracist idea". If you have an ICPL Library card and live in Iowa City, University Heights, Hills, Lone Tree or rural Johnson County you may read this book for free on the Libby app with your ICPL library card. Registration for this online event is required. All registered participants will be emailed the details for joining the discussion online the afternoon of the discussion. A recording of the event will be available on the Iowa City Public Library YouTube Channel. As part of a larger Read Woke initiative, these book discussions will connect you to resources and services. You are also welcome to bring your own titles to share with the community.
