LGBTQ+ Pride Month is celebrated annually in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots, and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) Americans. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that LGBTQ individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.
Iowa City Pride celebrations have been moved to a later, safer date in the year, but Becky Popelka from Big Picture Studio is here to teach you how to make a couple fun, rainbow pop-up cards to offer to some loved ones this month! Register for a kit that will include supplies to make two cards for each child in the household with a couple different template options. Younger kids may need assistance from adults. Becky will demonstrate the art project via Zoom, and kids are invited to add their own creative spin!
Since this event has a Zoom component, materials must be picked up before the event.
This special Pride Month Family Night event is made possibly by a generous gift from the Moeckli/Mozena family for ICPL Children's Programming in loving memory of Philip and Karen Moeckli.
If you need disability-related accommodations in order to participate in this event, please contact the Library.
This event is open to the public.
