03/16/2022 7:00pm 03/16/2022 8:00pm Everything Old is New Again: Getting Ready for the 1950 U.S. Census The 1950 U.S. Census is scheduled for release April 1, 2022. This will be a new data set for genealogists in a familiar format. We will review how information was gathered and processed for the census in 1950. We will survey what records sets were produced and which of those sets will be available on April 1st. Finally, we will look at how genealogists can prepare to dive into these newly released census records to search with confidence. Our guest speaker Laura Kovarik has been involved in genealogy for more than 25 years, including leadership and educational positions at the local and state levels. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists as well as the National Genealogical Society, Illinois State Genealogical Society (ISGS) and other local genealogical and historical societies. Her writing has appeared in Fox Tales and The Quarterly, the ISGS magazine. Laura’s areas of interests include the 1950 US Census, Norwegian research, how to use timelines to assist with research and creating genealogy games. Her current project is using ephemera to document the social life of an ancestor in the late 1880s Chicago. Laura has a Master of Urban Planning which offers a solid background for exploring census records. Registration is required for this event. You will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom details after registering.
