Who can use Curbside Holds Pickup?

Anyone with ready holds and a library card in good standing.

If you have $10 in fines or fees on your account, you will need to pay them before your holds can be checked out. Pay your Library fines by checking your account.

How does it work?

  1. Place a hold on items from the catalog
  2. Wait for notification that they are ready - please allow 2 business days
  3. Sign up for an appointment when they are ready
  4. Come to the Library during your time slot
  5. Call the posted curbside number when you arrive
  6. We'll bring out your holds to the table where you can pick them up

Can I pick up holds for others in my household?

Yes! Add the names and library card numbers for others in your household that have holds ready for pick up in the notes when you sign up for an appointment. Please only sign up for a single slot per household.

When can I pick up items?

Appointments are available Monday through Friday 3 - 6pm and Saturdays 10am - 1pm.

Can I use Curbside Holds Pickup without a car?

Absolutely! Note that you are arriving by foot, bicycle, motorcycle etc when you make an appointment. Please practice social distancing as you approach the Curbside Holds Pickup area.

Where do I return items?

You can return items to the book drops at the Library downtown building on the Linn Street side of the building.

The remote book drops at the 1st Ave Hy-Vee and the Green State Credit Union on Mormon Trek Blvd are locked and not accepting returns until further notice.

What if I miss my pickup appointment?

If you miss your appointment call us at 319-356-5200 or Ask Us online to reschedule or to request mail delivery instead.

What if I have items on hold but am uncomfortable with Curbside Holds Pickup?

If Curbside Holds Pickup is not for you, we can mail them at no cost to you. Contact us in one of the following ways:

What if I no longer want to check out items that I have on hold?

Contact the Library at 319-356-5200 or Ask Us online to have your holds cancelled. You can also log into your account and cancel your holds online.

What safety precautions are library staff currently taking?

Materials are quarantined, and our Curbside service is designed to be contact-free. Staff will be wearing face masks and sometimes face shields. Staff are also practicing social distancing, proper hand hygiene, and keeping a staggered schedule to decrease co-worker interactions.

How does mail delivery work?

  1. Place a hold on items from the catalog
  2. Wait for notification that they are ready - please allow 2 business days
  3. Request mail delivery when they are ready
  4. Confirm your mailing address and request
  5. Ready items will be mailed to you

How soon will I get my items in the mail?

We are mailing items Mondays through Fridays and we will email or call you to let you know your items are on the way. Delivery can take 3-10 days to reach you depending on your address.

Do I have to pay for the mailing?

No, the Library will pay the cost of mailing your items to you.
