How does printing pickup work?

  1. Send your document to refmail@icpl.org.
  2. If you cannot send emails, send us a message on the Ask Us page. There is a tiny paperclip in the right-hand corner where you can attach your file.

Currently we are only printing in black and white. There is a limit of 10 pages per day. There is no charge at this time.

Do I need to wear a mask?

Yes. Following local government orders, all individuals in the Library are required to wear masks and maintain a social distance of at least 6 feet.

We will provide a mask if you don’t have one.

Can I pick up holds for others in my household?

Yes! Please bring their library cards with you.

What are your hours?

Lobby Grab & Go is available Monday through Saturday, 10am - 6pm.

Where do I return items?

You can return items to the book drops at the Library downtown building on the Linn Street side of the building or at the remote book drops at the 1st Ave Hy-Vee and the Green State Credit Union on Mormon Trek Blvd. The Bookmobile will begin accepting returns starting October 13.

All items will be quarantined for 72 hours prior to check-in.

What if I have items on hold but am uncomfortable with Lobby Grab & Go?

Starting October 13, you can also pick up holds at any of our Bookmobile stops. When you place items on hold, ask for the Bookmobile as your pickup location.

If you live in Iowa City, Hills, Lone Tree, University Heights, or rural Johnson County, you can request items be mailed to you. To request mail delivery, contact us in one of the following ways:

If you live outside our primary service areas, contact the public library nearest to where you live and request an Interlibrary Loan.

I miss browsing the Library collections. How can I get books when I don’t know what to check out?

The Library has a new service: Staff Picks…Just for You! Fill out the online questionnaire and our experts on staff will surprise you with great finds. You can request a book bundle for pickup, or you can ask for a list of recommendations and place the holds yourself.

What if I no longer want to check out items that I have on hold?

Log into your account and cancel your holds online. You can also contact the Library at 319-356-5200 or Ask Us online to cancel your holds.

What safety precautions are library staff currently taking?

Our Lobby Grab & Go service is designed to be quick and contact-free. Staff will be behind plexiglass barriers and will have surface cleaners on hand. Hand sanitizing stations and masks will be also available. Returned materials are also quarantined 72 hours before check-in.

To support social distancing requirements, only 15 patrons will be allowed in the lobby at one time. Service lanes have been spaced out 6-feet apart. The floors have directional signage as well as markings for social distancing.
