The Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation will host a Book Sale from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on July 15, and Saturday, July 16.  Look for the tables under a tent which will be set up on the Library’s sidewalk (the Ped Mall) during the Iowa City Downtown District's annual Summer Sidewalk Sales.  If the weather is bad, the sale will move indoors to the Library lobby. All items will be priced as ‘pay-what-you-want’ on everything from fiction and cookbooks, to nonfiction, DVDs, art books, young adult and children’s books

The Iowa City Public Library will be Fine Free for all materials, effective Friday, July 1, 2022. Iowa City Public Library patrons will no longer incur fines for returning library materials past their due dates. Overdue fines were eliminated for Children’s and Teen materials at Iowa City Public Library in June 2019. This new change applies to all other materials.

With their Iowa City Public Library card, children have a ticket to ride an Iowa City Transit bus for free, all summer long. The Library provides free rides on any Iowa City Transit bus to children through 12th grade, as well as to the adult caregivers with them, on weekdays between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, from Wednesday, June 1 through Tuesday, August 23, 2022. Bus riders should show their Iowa City Public Library card to the bus driver to gain free access to the bus.

Iowa City author Katie Runde's debut novel, "The Shore," was just released and has received rave reviews—Glamour magazine listed it as one of the ten best books to read in May, and a New York Times reviewer wrote that the book "is never sentimental; it is absorbing, lucid and true." The community is invited to celebrate with the author at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022, on the rooftop at The Chauncey, 404 E. College St. The event is free with no registration required and will feature the author in conversation with Lyz Lenz, another brilliant Iowa author.

First, of all, we want to say thank you for making the Iowa City Library's 2022 Book Brackets competition a success. We are so pleased that dozens of patrons filled out their brackets and that in the six-week period the contest was open, we received almost 1000 votes.  After the final round, we have our winners!   Adults/Teens: The House on Mango Street by S.
