– It’s not too late to learn a new skill in 2019, thanks to the Iowa City Public Library! If you loved drawing in MS Paint as a kid, it's time to elevate your computer drawings with the Library's Introduction to Wacom Drawing Tablets. We'll experiment with different brush tools in Illustrator and try tracing a photo. This class will be held twice: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, and 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25.

On July 25, Macmillan Publishing announced it would become the only major (Big 5) publisher to limit eBook lending for U.S. libraries. This means when a new book is released, Macmillan will allow library systems to purchase only one copy during an eight-week window. This new licensing model is scheduled to begin November 1, 2019.

The Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation is now accepting donations of handmade arts and crafts for the Seventh Annual Arts & Crafts Bazaar. This year’s bazaar will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, December 7, in Meeting Room A. Proceeds from the sale support the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation to benefit Library programs and collections.

A special community effort to restock the shelves at The BookEnd used bookstore inside the Iowa City Public Library is underway at local MidWestOne banks throughout September. Each MidWestOne bank in Iowa City will accept gently-read fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books at a special inside collection box. Donations of DVDs and music CDs in their original cases are also welcome. Bank customers, staff, and the public can deliver their donations during convenient bank hours.

Parents expecting the pitter-patter of little feet are invited to the Iowa City Public Library’s Belly Babies Special Event. Join us in the Children’s Room from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, for information and activities for parents-to-be. Attendees learn about the five early literacy practices, take home songs and rhymes to do with baby at home, and register for ICPL’s Belly Baby Reads program. They’ll also partake in specialized 30-minutes sessions about prenatal yoga, reading rituals, breast feeding and support, and doulas and baby wearing.
