Local Tax Assistance Programs
Free tax preparation services are offered to Seniors at the Johnson County Senior Center Site. Help is offered by appointment only, call 319-356-5220.
Free federal tax help for qualifying families and individuals is offered by the University of Iowa Accounting Fraternity, Beta Alpha Psi. To qualify for this service individuals must have earned less than $52,000.

VITA Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
VITA Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Volunteers from the University of Iowa Accounting Fraternity, Beta Alpha Psi, provide free income tax preparation help in the Library's Meeting Rooms. The VITA program is designed to provide free tax assistance at community locations to individuals who cannot afford professional tax help. Volunteers assist people with simple tax returns. You must bring a copy of your 2003 Federal and Iowa income tax returns if you have filed those tax returns. You must also bring any pertinent interest and withholding statements and all receipts to document deductions you claim. You CANNOT use this service if: ˇYou are single and your gross income exceeds $25,000 ˇYou are married and your combined gross income exceeds $35,000 ˇYou are self-employed ˇYou have sold securities (stocks and bonds) in 2004 ˇYou have earned income from other states - i.e. non-Iowa sources of income ˇYou are a non-resident of the United States Please call the Reference Desk at 356-5200 ext. 5 for more information.
