Elsworth Carman

Elsworth Carman started as the Iowa City Public Library director in January 2019. After receiving his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Information Studies, he began his career in teen services. From there he moved into teen and children's services management before shifting into administrative roles in library leadership, most recently as the director of the Marion Public Library.

Maeve Clark

Maeve started her career at the Iowa City Public Library as a circulation page in 1981 while attending Library School at the University of Iowa. Prior to returning to the Iowa City Public Library in 1992, Maeve was an Information Librarian at the Ames Public Library and served as the head of Adult Services and Assistant Director at the Carnegie Stout Public Library in Dubuque. She holds BA in Anthropology and an MA in Library and Information Science from the University of Iowa. Maeve was a Peace Corps volunteer in Zaire from 1979-1981.

Kara Logsden

Kara Logsden has served as Community and Access Services Coordinator since December, 2012. Kara is responsible for Bookmobile and Circulation Services, the Library’s Volunteer Program, and Public Relations and Marketing. Kara started her career at Iowa City Public Library in 1998 as Community and Audiovisual Services Coordinator and later served as Adult Services Coordinator. Preceding her employment with Iowa City Public Library, Kara served as the Director of the Patients’ Library at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Program Director for the Integrated Area Information Management Systems Planning Grant from the National Library of Medicine based Hardin Library for the Health Sciences. Kara and her husband Ron live in Iowa City and have two children.

Anne Mangano

Collection Services Coordinator

Anne Mangano has worked for the Iowa City Public Library since 2007, serving as the Collection Services Coordinator since 2013. In this positon, she oversees the Library’s collection, including the selection, cataloging, processing, repair, and removal of materials. She also plans and directs ICPL’s digital collections, including the Local Music Project and the Digital History Project. Anne holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and a Masters in Library and Information Science from Simmons College. She lives in Iowa City with her husband and son.

Patty McCarthy

Patty McCarthy began serving as Director of Development for the Iowa City Public Library in 2004. She works with the volunteers on the Board of Directors of the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation to seek private contributions to provide more art, books, movies, and music to borrow from the Library, as well as for library programs and projects. Before joining the Library staff, Patty worked with the Iowa City Community School District Foundation in marketing and fundraising. And before that, she was a volunteer fundraiser who worked as a newsroom manager and reporter at television stations in Cleveland, St. Louis, Kansas City, and Davenport, Iowa. Patty graduated from Wellesley College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and English. She is an active board member or volunteer with several community organizations. She and her husband live in Iowa City and have two children.

Elyse Miller

Administrative Services Coordinator

Elyse Miller is the Administrative Coordinator and is responsible for behind-the-scenes library activities like human resources and accounting functions. She did her undergraduate work in History at Grinnell College and received a Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of Iowa. Elyse serves on the City Wellness and the City Employee Recognition and Potluck Committees. She has lived in Iowa City for nearly 30 years, but still says she’s from New York. Elyse lives on the east side of Iowa City with Dylan, the silver standard poodle who was named for a then-future Nobel Laureate.

Brent Palmer

Information Technology Coordinator

Brent Palmer joined the Iowa City Public Library staff in 2012. As the IT Coordinator, he oversees the technology at the Library including the online catalog, Virtual Branch, network, meeting room technology and Library Channel. He studied biology at Kalamazoo College and obtained a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois. He enjoys reading hard boiled mysteries, futuristic science fiction, and books about evolution. He lives in the Longfellow neighborhood of Iowa City is married and has two sons. Brent enjoys cross-country skiing, camping and gardening.

Angela Pilkington

Children's Services Coordinator

Angela Pilkington has served as the Children’s Services Coordinator since June 2015. Angela is responsible for the Children’s Room, including outreach to schools and daycares in the community. Preceding her employment in Iowa City, Angela started her career at the Burlington Public Library in 2002 as the Youth Services Library Assistant, and in 2009 she became the Youth Services Manager. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from North Central College and her Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois. She has spoken at many conferences in Iowa, including the Iowa Library Association, and the Kids First Conference. Nationally, she will present at the Association for Library Service to Children National Institute in September 2018.
