11/14/2023 6:30pm 11/14/2023 8:00pm BYOBook--Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe

Join us to discuss Patrick Radden Keefe's book Empire of Pain: The Secret History of the Sackler Dynasty. Published in 2021, Keefe takes a long, serious look at the family who, through their pharmaceutical business, created and pushed the drug Oxycontin, while also tacking the long history of making money on people's pain and misery. The author is as meticulous in his reserach as he is a masterful storyteller. Booklist says: In Keefe's expert hands, the Sackler family saga becomes an enraging exposé of what happens when utter devotion to the accumulation of wealth is paired with an unscrupulous disregard for human health.

We will meet at 6:30 at Bread Garden Market, 225 S. Linn St.

Copies of the book are available in our ciruclating print collection, as well as in Overdrive in ebook and eaudio formats.
