Here’s a novel idea: take the break from the kitchen and go out to eat. Better yet, enjoy a meal and support the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation at the same time. The Foundation has partnered with local restaurants for a fun fundraising program: Eat Out to Read. On Saturday, June 15, enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at Timmy Flynn’s Red Pepper Deli & Grill, or lunch and dinner The Wedge Pizzeria. Both eateries are located at 517 S. Riverside Drive. Mention ICPL and a percentage of food sales will be donated to the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation.

Get ready to learn more about local history with the Iowa City Public Library’s Weber Days. Our annual celebration of local history is held every May in honor of Iowa City’s historian, the late Irving B. Weber. Weber was instrumental in helping Iowa City preserve its history, writing more than 800 articles detailing what it was like to grow up in Iowa City. May also is National Historical Preservation Month. This year’s lineup of programming is perfect for anyone interested in learning more about the community they call home.
