Crissy Canganelli, Executive Director of Shelter House, Real Estate Appraiser Casey Cook, and Tracy Hightshoe, Iowa City Neighborhood and Development Services Director will examine Affordable Housing in Johnson County.
Crissy Canganelli has been the Exec. Director at Shelter house since 1998. Her leadership has transformed the Shelter House into a comprehensive supportive service, two social enterprises, and a permanent supportive housing organization all with the intention of moving people beyond homelessness. She is chair of the Johnson County Local Homeless Coordinating Board, a founding and current board member of the Housing Trust Fund of Johnson County, the Johnson County Affordable Housing Coalition, and chair of the Policy and Planning Committee of the Iowa Council on Homelessness. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Iowa.
Casey Cook has been in Real Estate since 1977 and has been a commercial appraiser since 1983. He has provided expert testimony throughout central and eastern Iowa. He is the past president of the Iowa Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, and has served on the Iowa City Planning and Zoning Commission, and co-founded the Friends of the Iowa River Scenic Trail(FIRST). He earned a B.A. in Economics from Oberlin College, an M.A. in Urban and Regional Planning from the UI and holds the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute.
Tracy Hightshoe, Neighborhood and Development Services Director for Iowa City, supervises three City divisions addressing housing and neighborhood needs: Iowa City Housing Authority (ICHA), Housing Inspection Services, and Community Development. ICHA administers more than 1,270 Housing Choice and VASH vouchers and $6.2 million annual Housing Assistance payments Housing Inspection Services inspects more than 18,000 rental units on a two-year inspection. Community Development administers funds to help address the needs of low-moderate income residents with Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships Program, and coordinates more than 25 neighborhood associations and various other facilities and funds. Prior to working for Iowa City, she worked as a planner with smaller Iowa municipalities administering federal and state grants for public infrastructure projects, calculating water/sewer rates, establishing tax increment financing districts and working with cities to annex land. Ms. Hightshoe holds a B.A. in Public Administration from the University of Northern Iowa.
