Press ReleaseICPL's Summer Reading Program Begins June 1

Storytimes, crafts, guest lectures and, of course, books are just some of the events scheduled for the Iowa City Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, which will be held June 1 through Aug. 2. ICPL_SummerReadingProgram_PC

Summer reading program participants can sign up for one of three reading programs:

  • Fizz, Boom, Read is for babies and children ages birth through sixth-grade.
  • Spark a Reaction is the teen program (grades seven through 12th).
  • Make the Library Your Laboratory is the adult program.

All participants will receive a game card when they register for summer reading, which will guide them through two months of reading, learning and fun.

“The Summer Reading Program is the Library’s biggest program of the year,” Library Director Susan Craig says. “We had record-setting participation numbers last year and we’re ready to do it again with more programs, more activities, and more prizes!”

Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins June 1. Patrons can either register in-person at the Library or online at www.icpl.org/srp.

The Summer Reading Program is free, but participants must have a Library Card. If you don’t have a Library Card, visit www.icpl.org/cards/ for information about how to apply for a card. Applications can be completed online, then stop by the Help Desk within two weeks to pick up your card. You can also apply in person at the Help Desk any time the Library is open.

Adults need to be prepared to show photo identification (such as a current driver’s license) and proof of their current resident address (such as a current driver’s license; mail with a current post mark; or a current lease). Children are not required to have photo identification in order to receive a Library Card.
