Displayed in the Iowa City Public Library’s gallery until October 31, the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library’s Traveling Exhibit is now open to the public. The exhibit showcases the life, legacy, and works of the author known for Slaughterhouse-Five and more than 20 novels and story collections.
The traveling exhibit is a portable extension of the Indianapolis-based Vonnegut Library, which partnered with Ball State University to create it.
The exhibit comes equipped with explanatory visual displays, two interactive iPad kiosks loaded with archived digital transcripts, and photographs and video of Vonnegut. There also is a replica of both Vonnegut’s Purple Heart and the typewriter that he used to write all his works.
The Library has added copies of Vonnegut’s novels and non-fiction books to the exhibit. These books are available for checkout.
Vonnegut, an Indiana native and one of the 20th century’s greatest writers, taught at the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop from 1965 to 1967.
