Get tech help, use computers at Library computer labs

The Iowa City Public Library is dedicated to helping the public gain access to technology, and then offering support in using it in day-to-day life. Tech Help @ ICPL, Senior Tech Zone @ ICPL and Tech Zone @ Pepperwood offer the public a variety of times and locations for computer help or open computer use this fall and winter.

ICPL Computer Access Hours at Pepperwood Plaza:
Thursdays, 3-6 p.m.*
No library card required. Guests will be asked to sign-in before using a computer station. The free computer access site is located on the southeast side of Iowa City, in Pepperwood Plaza, inside the Iowa City Police Department Substation at 1067 Highway 6 East, Pepperwood Plaza, Iowa City.
*Tech Zone @ Pepperwood will not be open on the third Thursday of the month.

Iowa City Public Library Offsite Computer Lab 2 ICPL's free computer access site on the southeast side of Iowa City will offer open computer use on Thursdays this fall from 3 to 6 p.m. This facility provides 10 Internet and database access computers and a printer for public use one afternoon a week. So far, visitors to the off-site computer lab have come in to use the computers to pay bills online, check email, print documents or access the Library’s large collection of free online resources.

Iowa City Public Library Offsite Computer Lab Studies show 37 percent of lower-income households, and nearly half of adult Americans without a high school diploma don’t use the Internet. Thirty percent of Iowans do not have Internet access in their own homes. The Library hopes to bridge that gap by offering computer access once a week at Pepperwood, and every day at the downtown Library, including the 40 public Internet stations on ICPL’s second floor. The Library would like to thank the Iowa City Police Department for continuing this partnership.

Iowa City Public Library Senior Tech Zone Senior Tech Zone, a partnership with the Johnson County Livable Community for Successful Aging continues this fall and winter at the Iowa City Public Library. JCLC recognized a trend of more and more local seniors who wanted to apply for local jobs but were not comfortable filling out applications online or did not have access to a home computer. ICPL and JCLC are continuing their partnership, with ICPL providing the space and equipment needed, and one to two senior JCLC volunteers staffing ICPL’s in-house Computer Lab once a week, offering tech support and computer help to seniors who stop by on Thursdays.

Senior Tech Zone Hours:
10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursdays
At the Iowa City Public Library’s second floor computer lab, main library building, 123 S. Linn St., downtown Iowa City.
