For Black History Month, we are featuring a new picture book each week that will be always available to borrow online via our Digital Library collection Overdrive for the entire month of February using the app Libby. This week we are highlighting the book Whoosh!: Lonnie Johnson's Super-Soaking Stream of Inventions. A love for rockets, robots, inventions, and a mind for creativity began early in Lonnie Johnson’s life. Growing up in a house full of brothers and sisters, persistence and a passion for problem solving became the cornerstone for a career as an engineer and his work with NASA. But it is his invention of the Super Soaker water gun that has made his most memorable splash with kids and adults. To go along with this book, register or stop by the library to receive the materials to do some outdoor watercolor painting in the snow with a squirt toy! Note: If there is no snow, you can also do this activity on paper or even in the bath!
Register for Sunday Fun Day Craft-To-Go Kits from the events page with the registration link below. Kits can be reserved through this calendar event and picked up during our Lobby Grab and Go hours, from 10am-6pm Monday-Saturday and noon-5pm on Sunday. Limit to one kit per child in a household. A new craft kit will be offered every Monday and be available until Saturday or as supplies last, so check out the calendar for new crafts weekly! We also will have extra crafts available in the lobby throughout the week, so if you're not sure if you will be able to come pick up your crafts or miss registration, consider coming to the library to grab one in the lobby.
If you need disability-related accommodations in order to participate in this event, please contact the Library.
This event is open to the public.
