Library EventFamily Night: Celebrate Children's Day!

Today is Children's Day in Japan, a national holiday to respect children's personalities and to celebrate their happiness. On this day, families raise the carp-shaped koinobori flags with one carp for the father, one for the mother, and one carp for each child. The whole family in invited to learn a bit about the holiday, create a watercolor Koinobori flag, and make a snack--hand rolls with rice and veggies, also called temaki sushi!

今天是日本的儿童节，孩子们将一起庆祝幸福的童年。在这一天，家家户户都会挂起鲤鱼旗，爸爸一条鲤鱼，妈妈一条鲤鱼，每个小孩子也有一条鲤鱼。今天的活动我们将邀请大家一起来了解这个节日，并制作水彩鲤鱼旗。我们还将学习怎么制作日式小吃——手卷米饭和蔬菜，也称为手卷寿司！

Hoy es el Día del Niño en Japón, una fiesta nacional para respetar la personalidad de los niños y celebrar su felicidad. En este día, las familias levantan las banderas koinobori en forma de carpa con una carpa para el padre, una para la madre y una carpa para cada niño. Toda la familia está invitada a aprender un poco sobre las festividades, crear una bandera Koinobori de acuarela y hacer un refrigerio: ¡rollitos de arroz y verduras, también llamados temaki sushi!
