Peace Pole Returns to Ped Mall

The Peace Pole will return to the Ped Mall outside the Library on Monday November 11 as a part of the Veterans for Peace Chapter #161 Armistice Day celebration.

A photo of Scott Koepke next to the Peace Pole in the IC Children's Garden Ross Porch will play the Bugle Call for Assembly at 10:45 am and the annual tolling of church bells will ring around the city at 11:00 am. Church bells rang around the world at the end of WWI in 1918 and ring on each November 11.

Mayor Jim Throgmorton, who is a veteran, will unveil a new Peace Pole for the Ped Mall which will be located in the Children's Garden outside of the Library. Guitarist Jean Littlejohn and members of the Family Folk Machine will lead the crowd in a song of peace. Taps will close the observance.

Attendees are invited to a free potluck lunch in Meeting Room A at the Iowa City Public Library that will begin after the dedication. This event, sponsored by Veterans for Peace, will provide time for socializing and will include an open mic.
