This is a whimsical foray into artistic expression with a lesson that teaches children that a mistake can be just as important as something intentional.

jREADER Willems, Mo
Picture Books
Gerald must decide if he should share his ice cream before it's too late.

Mo Willems is one of my all-time favorite authors! Piggie and Gerald are characters most all K-3rd graders can identify with and though I have many favorites in this series, this is definitely up there!

A River
Marc Martin
jE Martin
Gazing at the river outside her window, a child imagines all the places the river could take her from the city all the way to the ocean, and dreams of all that she would see.

The illustrations in this book are beautiful; so is the idea of following a river from your bedroom window and imaging where it will take you. Early elementary readers will enjoy this title.

Julián is a Mermaid
Jessica Love
jE Love
While riding the subway home from the pool with his abuela one day, Julián notices three women spectacularly dressed up. Their hair billows in brilliant hues, their dresses end in fishtails, and their joy fills the train car. When Julián gets home, daydreaming of the magic he's seen, all he can think about is dressing up just like the ladies in his own fabulous mermaid costume: a butter-yellow curtain for his tail, the fronds of a potted fern for his headdress. But what will Abuela think about the mess he makes -- and even more importantly, what will she think about how Julián sees himself?

A gorgeous book on so many levels!

A Child of Books
Oliver Jeffers
jE Jeffers
Picture Books
A young reader introduces a boy to the many imaginative worlds that books bring to life.

There are so many Jeffer's books I love. This was the first one I ever picked up and instilling the love of reading in a child and showing them the possibilities books have to transform their lives is perhaps one of the most important messages I glean from this one.
