ICPL's weekly writing group has relased their first Lit Mag publication. Middle and high schoolers submitted original art, poetry and prose to the the magazine. The group also wrote and starred in a promotional commercial seeking submissions, created a submission box and workshopped all pieces as a group.
There will be physical copies available in the Teen Space (while supplies last,) and it is also available digitally (see link below). We also hope to have it available in the library's local author section.
This project would not have been brought to fruition with such fervor without the dedication of 1-Week-Critique facilitator, Adam al-Sirgany, and the Digital Media Lab's Indesign layout guru, Victor.
We are curently looking for additional youth writers to craft our next edition, based around the themes of physical and mental health. Submissions can be emailed to victoria-fernandez@icpl.org, or dropped off in the Koza Family Teen Space submission box.
This is a beautiful introduction to the power of art and its ability to wash away the dust of everyday life and hold a mirror up to problems in our world. The text is simple and the story is told mostly through the illustrations (which are fantastic). The ideas are heady and real, but the art is more real and connects the reader to an inertia art creates to bring about real change. A wonderful read! -Victoria
