Press ReleaseICPL announces August classes for adults

Cool off from the hot days of August by brushing up on your computer skills and savvy. Become a smarter computer user through time-saving tips and tricks or learn how to protect your privacy and personal information online at the Iowa City Public Library.

The chances are you know someone who has been a victim of identity theft, online fraud, or financial exploitation. Prevention is possible! Come to the Library on Monday, August 5, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. or Monday, August 19, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to learn how to recognize and reduce the risk of this threat and guard against identity theft, and other digital dangers.

Do you know how to find downloads on your computer? Have you ever used the “replace all” function to fix an error you made throughout an email? Do you know how to upload or delete a batch of files or photos instead of clicking on each one? Join us on Monday, August 12, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. or Monday, August 26, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to learn these little tricks to make using your computer a little less painful.

Want to use the Digital Media lab at any time while the Library is open? Ask for an orientation at the Page Station so you can use the room’s technology to digitize your current photos, slides or VHS collections, edit digital images or video, or create new digital work such as graphics, animations and more using the Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Wacom tablets. To use the lab, individuals should have a valid Library Card.

Classes are free and space is limited, so patrons should register early. To register for classes at the Library, visit https://www.icpl.org/events/digital-media-lab to register online. You can also register by calling the Library at 319-356-5200. All classes will be held in the Digital Media Lab on the second floor.
