The Iowa City Public Library’s classes for adults will be focusing on resume and cover letter skills in May.

Unsure of how to begin writing a resume? Join us from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 2, or 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 5, for Writing your Resume, a how-to on getting started. A librarian will give you helpful brainstorming tips for thinking about the content of your resume and provide methods to organize it after the brainstorming process. free-resume-writing-advice

Learn what a successful resume should look like by registering for the Overview of Resumes & Cover Letters, which will be heldfrom 10 to 11a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, and 10 to 11a.m. on Friday, May 30. We will review the different types of resumes, learn about writing objective statements, and discuss tips and tricks for catching an employer’s eye.

Finally, LinkedIn for Beginners demonstrates the professional networking capabilities of LinkedIn and how it can be helpful in your job search. Learn the basics by creating a LinkedIn profile, adding new contacts, joining groups, and searching for jobs. This class will be taught from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 19.

All classes for adults are held in the Library’s Computer Lab on the second floor. Classes are free, but space is limited to 10 people per program, so patrons should register early.
