Press ReleaseICPL to Screen Cyclo-Cross Documentary

Gear up for September’s Telenet UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup by watching For the Love of Mud Tuesday, September 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Meeting Room A at the Iowa City Public Library.

This documentary by British filmmaker Benedict Campbell gives the history and narrative about cyclo-cross, a niche bicycling race that consists of on- and off-road courses held on a mix of surfaces, including mud. Campbell spent more than a year filming at races throughout Europe and the U.S., interviewing local cyclists and elite athletes.

Iowa City has played host to the Jingle Cross Cyclo-Cross every winter since 2004. This year, the annual race will move to September to coincide with the World Cup on September 24.

Called the sport’s Super Bowl, the World Cup features a series of races in countries across the globe. Iowa City is one of two North American host sites.

This screening is part of the Library’s Gear Up for Bikes, Bikes, Bikes; a series of programs designed to inform and educate the public about cyclo-cross. It is free and open to the public.

For more information, visit icpl.org or call the Library at 319-356-5200.
