Press ReleaseLibrary to Begin Daily Afternoon Snack for Kids and Teens

A special effort to ensure kids and teens who visit the Library don’t go hungry has raised $3,000 to purchase daily afternoon snacks. The Alternative Christmas Team at Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City identified this need after hearing about food insecurity issues in our community.

Elizabeth Noyes, who was part of the Alternative Christmas Team, helped raised the funds and stated, “Zion Lutheran Church is a strong supporter of efforts to fight hunger. When we learned Iowa City Public Library was feeding hungry kids we wanted to help. We love the way ICPL serves our community with so many programs. We support their efforts to care for the kids in our community.”

“It’s wonderful the Zion Lutheran Church group thought about the Library and meeting the needs of the kids in our community that we see on a daily basis. Their donation will go a long way in helping us to curb childhood hunger,” says Angela Pilkington, Children’s Services Coordinator at the Iowa City Public Library.

The Library will begin daily afternoon snack time for children at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3. Snacks are available for children up to age 18 and will be available at the Children's Desk.
