Press ReleaseTemporary Changes to Library Services

Iowa City Public Library is adjusting its service model in response to guidance from the State Library of Iowa and information from the Johnson County Department of Public Health, the Iowa Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the World Health Organization. We are scaling back a carefully selected group of services effective immediately, through April 3, or until further notice.

  • All library-sponsored programs, events, and classes are postponed
  • The Library Volunteer Program is suspended
  • All outreach is cancelled, except the Bookmobile
  • All toys and art supplies have been removed from the Children’s Room

Other library services will continue to be available and staff look forward to serving patrons in the building, on the Bookmobile, via phone, and online.  We recommend checking the online calendar or calling the library before a specific event.

Patrons who are unable to visit the Library may access a number of digital services with a library card from home, including: eBooks and digital audiobooks, animated picture books, magazines, movies, local music, and the Digital History Project. Storytimes , local history presentations, and other programs are available on our streaming video site. If you have any questions, please call the library at 319-356-5200 or use email or chat options.
