Juneteenth celebration at ICPL

We want to invite all of you to join the Iowa City Libary as we honor and celebrate Juneteenth.

Juneteenth is a holiday that commemorates the day the Emancipation Proclamation reached enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865. Sometimes Juneteenth is called African American Emancipation Day.

In Iowa City, in 2021 Mayor Bruce Teague signed a proclamation making Juneteenth an official observed holiday.

This year ICPL has partnered with other City departments to offer several activities.
