We’re looking for candidates who are involved and interested in the arts community in some way — artists, framers, instructors, students, gallery employees, collectors and serious enthusiasts — to join the Committee. The Committee is made up of six members, and terms run for three years (this term would end in April 2024). Candidates must reside in Iowa City or rural Johnson County and are appointed to the Committee by the Library Board. Library employees are not eligible for appointment.

On July 1, the Iowa City Public Library will move to Phase 5a of the reopening plan to expand Library hours, remove the time limits for browsing, extend time limits for computer access, and lift building and Bookmobile capacity restrictions. In addition to previously available services, the study and meeting rooms will be open to the public, and ICPL outreach services and programs will be offered offsite. Masks are suggested for those not yet vaccinated.

The Iowa City Public Library now has Chromebook/hotspot bundles available for checkout, made possible by a generous grant from the Community Foundation of Johnson County.The Chromebooks can be used to browse the Internet or use Google Drive. The Library also offers a Laptop/hotspot bundle for checkout with a Microsoft Operating System and Microsoft Office.

Iowa City Public Library, in collaboration with the Library’s Friends Foundation and Iowa City Parks & Recreation are bringing to Iowa City a brand new, permanent BookWalk installation in Willow Creek Park, located at 1117 Teg Drive. BookWalk is an interactive way for readers of all ages to enjoy storytime and the outdoors.

The new Bookmobile route and schedule for summer 2021 kicked off a summer of Bookmobile fun on Tuesday, June 1 and will continue through Friday, August 2021.The summer schedule operates Monday through Friday to support neighborhoods and serve locations which have difficulty visiting a library building. The Bookmobile continues to offer the ability to pick up holds, browse and borrow from the Bookmobile bins, return materials, register for library cards, and participate in the Summer Reading Program at its regular scheduled stops.

We are excited to announce our 125th Anniversary Summer Reading Program, which will include both in-person and virtual activities.  The Summer Reading Program will run from June 1 through September 1 - 2021 and is for all ages from babies through adults. Registration opens on Tuesday, June 1 and can be completed by returning your gamecard in-person at the Library, at our Bookmobile, or online at

Local Libraries LIT (Listen, Initiate, Talk) will host Roxane Gay, award-winning author, professor, editor, and social commentator, during a unique hour-long online program featuring a reading and opportunity to interact. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom, on Thursday, April 29, and reservations are required. The program is free to the public and donations are welcomed, but not required.
