Library Services Update

Dear Library Patrons,

In response to the joint Mayors’ statement yesterday and in continuation of our efforts to align with best practices in reducing the spread of COVID-19, the Iowa City Public Library is releasing most staff from on-site work assignments through at least April 12. Telephone service will be temporarily suspended starting today; watch for updates related to the reestablishment of this service.

Please continue to reach out to the Library via Live Chat online, available 10.00am-5.00pm, Monday through Friday.  All online resources are available, and check out our Facebook page for video storytimes and other activities you can do from home.

Know that this closure, which we believe will contribute to the community’s wellbeing, is very difficult for library staff and leadership.  We plan to maintain chat services, reestablish our main phone line as soon as possible, and keep all of our online services available (including our growing collection of video storytimes and activities for kids).  We’re also thinking beyond these services, and imagining ways we can serve our community during a time most people are staying in their homes.  Watch for updates as we develop tools to collect ideas from the community related to remote library engagement.  We look forward to finding novel ways to connect through our website, phone system, and social media until we can welcome you into our building again.

Thank you,

Elsworth Carman
