OED Names "GIF" the American Word of the Year


So, you know what a GIF is, right? The choosy folks at the Oxford English Dictionary have selected "GIF" as the 2012 American Word of the Year (it defeated YOLO by a slim margin, apparently).

GIFs are those funny snippets of soundless video that once belonged only on outdated, crappy webpages. But the Internet, in all of its crazy glory, has given GIFs a new and wonderful life.
