02/18/2018 12:30pm 02/18/2018 4:30pm VITA Volunteer Income Tax Assistance VITA Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Volunteers from the University of Iowa Tippie College Accounting Program and Law School, provide free income tax preparation help in the Library's Meeting Rooms. The VITA program is designed to provide free tax assistance at community locations to individuals who cannot afford professional tax help. Volunteers prepare tax returns and e-file the returns free of charge. You must bring a copy of any tax returns that you filed during 2017 – generally this will be your 2016 tax return. You must also bring any pertinent interest and withholding statements, all other tax-related documents you received (1099-R, 1099-MISC, etc.), and all receipts to document deductions you claim. You CANNOT use this service if: You are single or married and your gross income exceeds $54000; You are self-employed with inventory or expenses over $10,000; you use your home for business and want to declare part of your home as a business expense; you are the owner of a working farm; you are in the military and had non-taxable combat pay.
