06/06/2018 1:00pm 06/06/2018 2:00pm World Wednesday: Navajo Circle Weaving World Wednesdays are the perfect opportunity to learn about and celebrate world cultures! Each week we will learn by doing with a craft, game or activity that explores a different part of the world. The first World Wednesday activity of the summer is inspired by traditional Navajo basket weaving. For the Navajo, weaving began when Spider Boy brought the first loom to the Navajo, creating its frame from the power of the sun, the lashing cords of lightning and the warp strings of rain. Today the Navajo textile is recognized world wide for its intrinsic value as the product of an artist, a heritage, a culture, and a history. We will use yarn and CDs as a loom to create a kid-friendly weaving as well as learn more about the ancient craft of the Navajo people.
